Floor vases can be an excellent way to lively up your home without adding unnecessary furniture or spending undue cash. Empty spaces can be perfect places to put a vase. The decoration is low maintenance, lacks the bulkiness of additional chairs or furniture, and provides a focal point for your eye.

Floor vases come in a number of shapes and sizes. Shopping around can provide you with the floor vase that fits both your space and budget. For example, in order to accentuate window treatments or cathedral ceilings, tall floor vases would be optimal. By using floor vases, your eye is drawn both up and down, making French doors look even taller and more stately.

Floor vases can also be used to draw attention to your pieces of furniture. By choosing styles that are similar to your bed, coffee table, couch or dresser, you can make your favorite places look even more special.

When filling your floor vase with botanical accents, choose species that will complement the shape and color. For a tall, tapered vase, think calla lilies, sunflowers, and birds of paradise. Tall grasses, long stalks, thin reeds and bamboo are also great options for a long vase.

Keep season in mind when choosing your flowers. Some decorations, like bamboo, last no matter the season, although most flowers come into bloom in particular parts of the year. Though silken flowers last year round, letting your keep your tulips all year round, real flowers offer a sense of life and a great scent you can’t find anywhere but nature.

Spring can be one of the best times to fill your floor vases. As most flowers go into bloom in spring, your opportunities are endless. Blossoms from apple, peach and orange trees are readily available, and wildflower bunches provide a free source of decoration. Birds of paradise, calla lilies, orchids and tulips also go into blossom in spring.

Summer is rife with opportunities for flowers. Continuing the season of growth and wild flowers, you can add heather, delphinium, gardenia and foxglove to your floor vase collection. Fresh clippings of these flowers will make any room look and smell wonderful.

Autumn is the perfect time to take a new look at vase filling. Why not take advantage of the leaves on the ground? With beautiful shades of red and yellow, using dried leaves that are already lying on your lawn can provide an excellent and inexpensive alternative to traditional flowers. If leaves don’t fit the look of your home, lilies, freesia, baby’s breath and zinnia all blossom during autumn.

Though winter is not traditionally associated with flower blossoming, gerbera daisies, carnations, chrysanthemums, pansies and roses should do fine. Whether you find them at a local grocery store or farmer’s market, or grow them yourself, flowers can keep your living room looking lively all winter long. Additionally, you can use clipping you’re your Christmas tree for a fragrant, evergreen look. However, be sure to keep the floor vase away from ground heaters, as these can cause premature wilting, which will necessitate more frequent replenishment.
